Hey Guys,

As QuickCat and azaron have mentioned, the software's FAQ feature has been long forgotten since the website launched in February. The initial two example entries haven't been added to and it gives a rather bad impression.

So I'm hoping for help from you guys in the community to make a more comprehensive list of frequently asked questions that people new to the RPG Toolkit might have. Think back to when you first found the RPG Toolkit and the kind of questions you had about its capabilities and inner workings. Also think about the kind of questions you've seen newbies ask on the forums or other websites about it.

I would really appreciate all your suggestions and ideas on this, reply to this topic with any you might have.

Thanks guy,
Xavi

P.S Since I'd like a way to thank community members for assisting the site, I'm going to add a new achievement type where points are handed out to users for contributing in non-quantitative things like this. Look for that to appear in profiles soon.

Common questions seem to include 'Can I sell my game?' and 'Why doesn't the program run?' - particularly with windows 7. It would also be good if there was a link to FAQs from the home page, and if the FAQ page had links to some of the more basoc tutorials.

I do realize that the FAQ is plopped into the software section of the site, but I still think there's a couple of questions about the site itself that need to be addressed. The first two to my mind are both ones recently asked; 'how do I get my game to be considered a real game (rather than just in the devlog)', and 'how do I add stuff to the site banner'? Actually, on that second one, there really does need to be a list of what they all are. I did my own attempt here, if you lost your own notes of what they are.

Perhaps the FAQ is also a good place to address the question of where can people get ripped resources (and are rips allowed on the site) and the like. I'm thinking the FAQ should probably be broken into a couple of sections; one for the Toolkit and one for the site. Maybe some more divisions, if you can think of them.

I recall the Toolkit had a not terrible FAQ within the User Guide. You could probably steal a lot from that. :P

One more errant thing I want to add. I didn't even realize there was that FAQ until QuickCat mentioned it. Maybe a link to it alongside 'about', 'sitemap', 'contact', and the like that are at the bottom of every page is in order?

Good idea, once the new content has been added I'll link it up.

Another good one that addresses a problem that crops up every once and a while is "Can I create a profile for a game I'm making that isn't using the Toolkit?"

One very minor contribution...
There's a typo in the response to "Can I make 3d games?"

Here's the original sentence: "However, with use of RPG Code and a bit of skill you can create psuedo-3d with the use pre-rendered graphics."

...and you want "with the use of pre-rendered graphics." 8)

"Does pathfinding work properly in the TK?"

"No."

"No.""

Simplify this to "Does the Toolkit work?"

"Sometimes, if you're lucky."

"How do I make a shop?"
"The game crashes when I use an item."
"My animations have white backgrounds."
"How do I grab a bunch of tiles from a single sheet?"

These all get asked pretty frequently.

Also,
Q: "I have this great idea for a game! Will you make it for me?"
A: "Only if you pay me."
I kid. Sort of. (I think I even asked that question when I first started, too.)

Q - "How well is the community thriving?"
A - "There are a few people, maybe 3 or 4, on daily. They have multiple accounts to make TK look more active."
