Welcome

Hello and welcome to the official home of the RPG Toolkit! First launched over 10 years ago, this is the place to find all you need whether that's resources, sharing your projects or just chatting to fellow hobby game developers.

What's the RPG Toolkit?

The RPG Toolkit is a free, open-source tool for creating 2D role-playing games and much more. First released in 1997 by Christopher B. Matthews and now developed by the community, the RPG Toolkit has a long history in the RPG making community.

There is a simple, yet powerful scripting language called RPG Code that lets you get straight into the basics of game making in no time. In addition there's editor with all the tools you need to build your game world and plugins released by the community that add even more functionality.

Find out more about the features here.

Community

The website was launched by Xavier as a resource site for the RPG Toolkit in 2000. Just after the software was made open-source in 2004 the site, then called ToolkitZone.com, was selected to become the new official home of the software.

Over the years a great sense of loyalty has been built up within the community and their affiliation to the RPG Toolkit, leading to a friendly and fun atmosphere that is well known to make even the most hardened oldbie "come crawling back" in time.

Open Source

The software is open-source, meaning anyone can jump in and help us make it even better. Members such as Delano and Colin were the first to get their hands dirty and add some great new features such as canvases and vector collision.
